The University of Sheffield are aiming for their sixth consecutive Varsity title, as they prepare to face Sheffield Hallam in the 2018 event.
Cross-country cycling will kick-off the events this Wednesday, with the last event taking place at Hillsborough football stadium on 25 April as the women’s and men’s football 1st teams take to the pitch.
After the skiing and snowboarding events were staged in December, The University of Sheffield currently lead 3-1 on points overall, although the majority of the fixtures are still to be contested.
A notable date for the 2018 Varsity will be on 18 April at Sheffield Hallam’s University Sport’s Park.
Plenty of events will be taking place at the park including cricket, rugby union and ultimate frisbee over the coming days.
The ice hockey match, which has been the final showpiece event for the last three years, will be another notable event on 21 March. The FlyDSA Arena can accommodate for 13,500 spectators, which makes for a great atmosphere under its roof.
The English Institute of Sport will see another pivotal day of events, with netball, volleyball, table tennis, basketball and futsal all taking place under the same roof on 23 April.
Four years ago, Hillsborough Stadium staged the final Varsity event but after disruptive behaviour on trams following the football, the venue was taken off the timetable for three years. This year, the women’s 1st team match will kick-off at 4pm, followed by the men’s 1st team at 7.45pm.
With a capacity of nearly 40,000, the stadium, home to Sheffield Wednesday, will be a grand setting for the finale.
