A pensioner who has supported Chesterfield Football Club for 65 years, said this season may be his last as a supporter of the club.
Peter Stockton was invited to lead the team out before their game against Newport County last night, having recently diagnosed with a terminal illness.
His family was in attendance as he handed the match-ball to the referee before Chesterfield’s 1-0 victory.
The pensioner walked onto the field to raucous applause and was embraced by the club’s captain and acting manager, Ian Evatt.
Kristian Dennis’ 21st goal of the season for The Spireites proved the difference between the two teams last night.
