Owls fans have reacted angrily after a club statement was released congratulating their city rivals today.
Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri said he wanted to offer his warm congratulations to Sheffield United from everyone at the club.
“We may be rivals but we are friends of the same city that holds such unique tradition in the football world,” he said.
“Recognition in the Premier League can only benefit Sheffield and we wish United well, whilst promising our loyal supporters that we will be giving our absolute best to ensure Wednesday will be tasting the same success this time next year,” he added.
It would appear Wednesday fans do not share the same good will towards their promoted neighbours.
Twitter account SWFC Supporters Club made their feelings clear.
They tweeted: “On the back of Mr Chansiris statement below – we’d like to add that we want to see Utd relegated next year with lowest pts total in Premier League history – while we pass them celebrating an unprecedented undefeated season under Bruce with Nuhiu winning the golden boot.”
Another twitter account SWFC Central expressed a similarly disgruntled sentiment.
“If the chairman feels like he wants to congratulate them then that’s up to him, we know they wouldn’t do the same if it was the other way around but you’d never expect it from them anyway,” they said.
