Sheffield United Women look to improve against Manchester United after FA Cup defeat

Sheffield United Women will look to bounce back against Man United in the Championship after crashing out of the FA Cup yesterday.

The Blades played their fifth round match against Aston Villa and looked set to move through to the quarter-finals with a comfortable 3-1 lead with six minutes to go.

However Villa scored two goals in 3 minutes to level the scoring and bring the game into extra-time and penalties where United lost 5-3.

Manager Carla Ward said: “I can’t fault the girls. For 86 minutes they’ve dominated and played some great stuff but you have to learn to see the game out.”

“The togetherness in the group today was second to none. If they continue we’ve every chance of finishing the season well,” she added.

United now face a tough fixture on Wednesday against second place Man United who will be full of confidence after their 7-0 thrashing of Leicester City Women last Wednesday.

Maddy Cusack, who scored her first goal for Sheffield United yesterday, said: “We’re disappointed of course but we will take so many positives into the Manchester United game.”

Kick-off at the Olympic Legacy Park will be 7pm.
