New flagship research institutes are being launched by the University of Sheffield today.
Nearly 300 researchers from across the university are already involved in the four centres, which focus on Energy, Neuroscience, Healthy Lifespan and Sustainable food.
President and Vice-Chancellor of the university, Koen Lamberts, said: “The flagships provide an opportunity to ensure greater impact from and visibility for our world-leading research.
“I hope the flagships will have a positive and invigorating impact across the University, including for areas of research that are not easily aligned with them.”
It is hoped that more university staff will get involved in research at the institutes as time goes on. A second wave of institutes are also set to be launched next year.
