Sheffield Steelers smash league leaders Cardiff Devils

Sheffield Steelers beat Elite League leaders Cardiff Devils 5-2 at the Motorpoint Arena yesterday.

It was a four-point weekend for the Steelers, who set out against the Devils fresh from a 3-2 victory away at the Nottingham Panthers on Saturday. That was their seventh win in nine fixtures against the Panthers this season.

The Devils had thrashed the Edinburgh Capitals 8-0. They sit rock bottom of the league having won just five from 52 this season.

The Steelers’ Canadian forward Colton Fretter, who scored the opener in the victory over the Panthers the day before, scored twice in the convincing win over the Devils who are top with just six fixtures of the regular season left to play.

The first of those remaining fixtures will see them seek revenge against the Steelers at the Ice Arena Wales on Wednesday night.
