Sheffield Steelers won 5-2 against the Manchester Storms last night and then announced a new addition to their squad.
Their victory in the first leg of the Challenge Cup quarter final will set the team up for the second leg on 18 December.
The game got off to a slow start but as the action developed the two sides became increasingly defensive, with two players receiving fighting penalties.
Sheffield Steelers’ head coach, Aaron Fox, said: “In the second period we got our game going a little bit, got into our rhythm and played fast.
“Three goals is a good start for us, obviously it’s not complete until after next Wednesday but I am very happy we can go up there with a bit of a cushion.”
The team have since signed the defenceman Josef Hrabal.
Mr Fox said: “Josef comes with a pretty strong pedigree and we are looking forward to getting him in and on the ice with us.”
Hrabal is set to be playing with the team on Saturday.
The signing comes after Mikko Kukka announced at the end of the match that with offers coming from the top Finnish league, yesterday’s game would be his last with the Steelers.
