Sheffield Steelers claim historic European wheelchair basketball title

The Sheffield Steelers have won wheelchair basketball’s Euroleague 2 title for the first time in the club’s 31-year history.

They made the home advantage count, beating Spanish side Gran Canaria 71-60 in the Willi Brinkman Cup at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Rising star George Bates was the man of the hour, scoring 26 points in an outstanding display.

Rio Paralympic bronze medallists Abdi Jama, Phil Pratt and Harry Brown were also key as the Steelers won the eight-team tournament.
