The Sheffield Sharks will be playing Newcastle Eagles in the British Basketball League playoffs this weekend.
The first leg of the quarter-final will be held at EIS Sheffield this Saturday, followed immediately by a trip to Newcastle on the Sunday.
The Sharks should be feeling confident after beating Newcastle decisively 104-86 last week to confirm their spot in the playoffs.
Sheffield have a number of in-form players, including Dirk Williams whose 42 points against the Eagles is the 2nd highest ever for a Sharks player.
Another encouraging statistic for the Sharks is that Newcastle conceded the most points they had in a half all season during the game against the Sharks last week, a shocking 59 points to a rampant Sheffield in the first half.
This is also the first season since 2002/03 where Sheffield have beaten Newcastle in every league game.
The Eagles are a different team this time around however, with key forwards Darius Defoe and Victor Moses set to return.
Key man Mackey McKnight, speaking before Newcastle were announced as playoff opponents, said: “Our biggest competition is ourselves, so whoever we’re lined up against, it’s just a free game, it’s the playoffs anything can happen.
“You can see in the NBA playoffs, European Basketball playoffs, anything can happen so we’re just gonna take care of our bodies, watch film and say hey guys this is what we gotta do.”
Tickets for the game are available here.
