Sheffield restaurant Rafters through to Food Porn Finals

A Sheffield restaurant has been shortlisted for the finals for The Food Porn Awards 2019.

Rafters, a 2 AA Rosette restaurant, was one of 12 finalists narrowed down from over 450 entries which were submitted to ‘Shoot The Moon’ – the curators of the awards.

The Ranmoor-based Restaurant was one of four restaurants in Yorkshire that made it through to the finals, with other finalists appearing from Scarborough, Huddersfield and Hull.

Entries were open to chefs across the North, and were curated by ‘Shoot The Moon’ to celebrate the region’s best-looking food.

The restaurant’s chosen dish, Langoustine Minestrone, will be assessed by a panel of expert judges, competing with other dishes in the ‘Fine Dining’ category. Other categories include, ‘Casual Dining’, ‘Street Eats’ and ‘Sweet Treats.’

The awards will take place in a gallery in Ancoats, Manchester.

Alistair Myers, Co-Owner of Rafters, said: “Its great to be shortlisted, we are really looking forward to seeing our picture on canvas at the awards.”

Tom Lawson, co-owner and chef at Rafters Restaurant, said: “We’re really excited to have been shortlisted for the award – this month marks our fifth year owning the restaurant.

“Our restaurant is fine-dining, but – as two Sheffield lads – we also want to provide a comfortable experience.

“It’s all different things that we pull on to bring a dish together. It might just start with an initial idea then lots of different things that come into it. Seasonality, local produce and what I like eating I suppose is a big part of it!”

Members of the public can also vote for their favourite dish, determining the winner of the People’s Choice Award and allowing the public to support their favourite eateries. Voting opened this Monday.

2019 will mark the fourth year of the Food Porn Awards.

Phil Marshall, STM managing director and curator of the Food Porn Awards, said: “The Food Porn Awards are based solely on mutual publicity for the region’s food community.

We know there is a lot of talent in the North and we look forward to showcasing this at this year’s Food Porn Awards.”

Deadlines for voting close on Friday 7th December. The winning dishes will be judged in December and the final will be announced at the awards ceremony in February.
