A £10 million plan to expand Sheffield’s Cultural Industries Quarter has been announced today by the city’s Chamber of Commerce.
The project, which will be called Alsop Fields, will create new apartments and studios as well as offices and food outlets.
It will consist of four new buildings, one of them on the site of the former Niche nightclub, and two of which will have internal courtyards with restaurants and cafes.
Dale Fixter, director of property developers City Estates, said the site’s location in the city centre was excellent.
“It is designed to be a destination in itself, a regeneration that will be similar to the trendy parts of Manchester and London,” he said.
“Instead of just student accommodation, we are creating an attractive mix of apartments and studios, places to eat and drink and offices for the high-tech and creative sectors.”
“We have got quite a lot of speculative interest in the commercial space, and I’m hoping we’ll have some tenants in by September.”
