A team of 13 athletes from Sheffield won 13 medals , seven golds, five silvers, and one bronze at the Irish Open Diving Championships.
10-year-old Maisie Bond was the star performer as she dominated all the competitions in the 10/11 age group, winning three gold medals.
Nigel Mills, the coach of Sheffield Diving team was extremely satisfied with his team: “We just started the season, for some of the athletes this is their first ever competition.
“We achieved medals, we achieved personal best performances, and as a team we really exceled in setting a high standard for us to continue the rest of the season with.”
The team will be competing in Edinburgh for the Scottish Nationals and Opening Diving Championship 2017 this coming weekend.
A larger team of 15 athletes are competing and Mills believes the athletes are ready for the coming competition. The coach expects his team to perform equally as well, if not better.
Mills added more senior athletes will be participating in Edinburgh, including some who participated in both the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
“We have just done our final practice this evening, some of them are looking very sharp.
“We are going to go in there, put quite a steady performance and again get some fantastic results hopefully.”
