Sheffield count underway with first result predicted at 1am

The first election result for Sheffield’s six constituencies is predicted to be announced at 1am.

The election count started around 10.15pm when the first postal votes came in.

Counters for South East and Hallam are working particularly hard to get a head start on what promises to be a long night.

The atmosphere is tense after exit polls estimated a nationwide Conservative majority.

The BBC has predicted a high chance of a Liberal Democrat gain in Hallam and Conservative gain in Penistone and Stocksbridge.

They also predicted that Labour will hold Heeley, Central, and Brightside and Hillsborough.

They predict South East may be a Labour hold.
