Project to plant 50 million new trees in the north of England underway

Barnsley MP Dan Jarvis planted trees today in the new ‘Northern Forest’ alongside Thérèse Coffey, the Under-Secretary of State for the Environment.

It marked the first day of a 25-year project that will see 50 million trees planted across the North of England, creating a 120-mile forest that will span from Liverpool to Hull.

Today’s planting began at the Woodland Trust’s urban fringe site near Bolton.
