Owls fans left disappointed by last-gasp equaliser

Despite leading for most of last night’s league game, Sheffield Wednesday fans were devastated after an 82nd-minute leveller at Pride Park.

All seemed to be going well for the Owls during the first half of the match, with Sheffield Wednesday dominating the game with Steven Fletcher’s early goal.

It was a weak first half for Derby who struggled against Wednesday’s strong start.

Wednesday were favourites to win and their strong first-half performance seemed to back this up. Meanwhile, the Derby spectators were jeering from the stands during half-time.

Derby have a good record playing against the Owls, having won their previous 11 home matches against them, while Wednesday had only won two of their past 20 matches against Derby.

Despite a disappointing first half for Derby, they completed their comeback after the break with Chris Martin’s late penalty which brought the score to 1-1 and rescued a point for the team. They played with more confidence, and showed much more character and fight in the second half.

Wednesday finished with 10 men, after defender Moses Odubajo was sent off at the very end of the game with a second yellow card.

Sheffield Wednesday fans said they were not impressed with the result.

The landlord of the New Barrack Tavern Kevin said he thought Sheffield were the better team, and added: “Wednesday did not take advantage of their initial situation.”
