Less than three in ten Sheffield residents practice safe sex

Less than a third of people in Sheffield admit to practicing safe sex, a new report has revealed.

55% of people have never been tested for a sexually transmitted infection, and nearly a quarter said they would leave it until they experienced symptoms.

The findings come as part of a new study into the nation’s sex lives, commissioned by online pharmacy Medicine Direct.

Almost a quarter of Brits said they would not be confident discussing their sexual health with a partner, and over a third are “not confident at all” when it comes to identifying symptoms.

Lack of testing, but also lack of results from tests, have come as a cause of concern to some in Sheffield.

One Masters student, who did not want to be named, said: “I attempted to be tested, but they never gave me my results back. Bloody ridiculous.

“I don’t know why I haven’t gone back to be honest. I probably should have gone back, shouldn’t I?”
