Chemical company INEOS are looking to start fracking in Rotherham after identifying a potential new site in the Harthill area.
The company have submitted an environmental screening report to Rotherham Council and a full planning application is expected soon.
Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, is a process of drilling and injecting high pressure liquid into the earth to release shale gases.
It is a controversial technique that has already seen opposition from environmental groups in Sheffield.
A Facebook group called ‘Harthill Against Fracking’ was created last night and has gained almost 300 members.
Rotherham Council will hold a meeting in April.
