Buckingham Palace: ‘Duke has full support of the Queen’ in decision to retire from public engagements

In a statement released by Buckingham Palace this morning it was revealed that Prince Philip will attend no more public engagements after Autumn of this year.

He will, however, attend all scheduled appointments between now and that time both alone and accompanied by the Queen.

In the statement, released at 10am this morning, the Palace said: “His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has decided that he will no longer carry out public engagements from autumn this year.

“In taking this decision, the Duke has full support of the Queen.”

Speculation that a large announcement was going to come from the Palace began this morning as rumours spread across Twitter from across the world with the hashtag #BuckinghamPalace.
