Birthday joy for Megan Guarnier as she takes the second stage and Tour de Yorkshire title

American cyclist Megan Guarnier has won both the second leg and the overall title at the women’s race at the Tour de Yorkshire on her 33rd birthday.

She stormed ahead during a steep climb at Ilkley, becoming the first person to win the race overall on a summit finish, sprinting her final 500m in the lead and through the finish line.

Alena Amialiusik, of Belarus, pedalled hard and finished in second place today, third overall, followed by British athlete Dani Rowe who finished third in the stage ended up second overall after time bonuses were factored in.
