Bar in former public toilets to open in Sheffield

“Public”, the new bar in the former Sheffield Town Hall men’s toilets, is set to open on Friday at 4pm.

The venue, which is leased from the City Council, can fit 28 customers at one time.

The cocktail bar currently has six staff members and will also serve wine and small plates of food.

Jack Wakelin, a staff member, said:  “it’s kind of different, [we’re] trying to turn bar food on its head and serve high-quality cocktails.”

The staff believe that the bar’s past history as men’s toilets will help to attract more crowds.

The team responsible for the Surrey Street venture was also behind The Great Gatsby, on Division Street, and Picture House Social on Abbeydale Road, among others.
