There was joy for the managers of both Sheffield clubs this morning as Carlos Carvalhal and Chris Wilder were presented with April’s manager of the month awards by the football league.
Carvalhal has guided his Wednesday team to the playoffs for the second successive season in the Championship. The Owls were in fine form in April, being unbeaten in seven games. The Owls won games against promoted Newcastle, Ipswich, Derby, Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff and Rotherham, with a 1-1 draw against local rivals Barnsley being the only blip on the schedule.
Chris Wilder went one step further, securing promotion and the League One title for the Blades as well as the magical 100 point mark. The Blades were fantastic in April, winning all six games in the month of April and scoring 16 goals. It has been a good week for Wilder, whose team celebrated winning the title with an open top bus parade around the city on Tuesday.
There was further good news for the Blades, striker Leon Clarke was also presented with an award for League One player of the month. The striker, alongside his strike partner Billy Sharp, was crucial to the Blades promotion effort. Clarke was on fire during April, scoring six goals in six games.
