Venezuelan Jorge Linares beat Anthony Crolla to defend the WBA world lightweight title. Linares took took the belt from Crolla last September. Crolla showed a lot of heart and was knocked down in round seven but picked himself off the canvas, but he couldn’t overcome Linares’ class.
England beat Lithuania 2 – 0 in World Cup 2018 Qualifier with Defoe and Vardy finishing.
Scotland beat Slovenia 1-0 at Hampden Park.
Doncaster failed to produce at home against Plymouth, losing 1-0.
Sheffield United drew 1-1 with Oldham.
Sheffield FC lost 2-1 away at Kidsgrove.
Hallam FC beat Winterton Rangers 5-0.
Sheffield Steelers played their final game of the season at home, beating Coventry Blaze 4-1.
Sheffield Eagles beat Swinton Lions 28-24 away from home.

Kell Brook will fight Errol Spence at Bramall Lane on 27th May. It will be Blade-fan Brook’s first fight in Sheffield and his first fight since losing to the world-class Gennady Golovkin last year. Sheffield-born Brook showed his class against Golovkin but any managed five rounds against a man whose record is now W37L0D0, with 33 of his wins being KOs.

Rio Ferdinand has opened up on BBC’s 5 live about his wife’s death and raising his children without a mother. Rebecca Ferdinand passed away after a battle with breast cancer. Ferdinand is now a single dad with three children.
