A 24 hour gamers’ paradise has been given the go-ahead in Sheffield city centre.
Planning permission has been granted by Sheffield City Council for an E-gaming centre under a new-build student accommodation development, Bailey Fields.
The new centre will be open around the clock with snacks and cold drinks available on site.
The officer’s report emphasised that the plans will only impact positively on the area.
“The use will add activity at street level and is of a nature which will not be harmful to the character of the area or living conditions of nearby residents,” it said.
It is the latest addition to a thriving gaming industry in Sheffield which already boasts the National Videogame Museum and is set to welcome its first Meltdown e-sports bar later this year.
The identity of the proposed owners of the venue is unclear although Lava Esport are mentioned in the plans and Asia’s largest gaming café chain, Wanyoo, has a comparable business model to the proposed Sheffield venture.
