Revellers cause £1,500 of damage to Christmas decorations in Sheffield city centre

People climbing on the Christmas decorations in Sheffield city centre have caused £1,500 of damage according to the council.

In a Facebook post, the council asked people not to climb on the displays in the Peace Gardens and called the actions of those who did ‘mindless’.

Below the post people asked for those who were responsible to be identified by CCTV and said they should have to pay the bill.

Martin Sillince said: “Same happened last year outside winter gardens. Thousands of pounds of damage. Either have them indoors or off the ground.

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

Sheffield City council declined to comment any further.
