Sheffield's high street shops have a lot to offer for this year's Mothering Sunday.

Customers may already know that major department stores, like John Lewis, started their Mother's day promotions three weeks ago. Rose coloured cards were posted in the shop to remind customers to buy gifts for their beloved mums. There were also offers and discounts available on certain brands.

Among the shops with offers on is the city centre's perfume shop. It started its special promotion over a fornight ago, and has had discounts on certain brands. The shop assistant, who did not give her name, said that in previous years the promotion usually began two to three months ahead of the day. Though it is not certain which is the most popular mother's day gift, perfume certainly ranks high.

In the chocolate shop Thorntons, card shop Clinton and soap shop Lush, gift packs filled the shelves. Large banners and posters were hanging in the shops to remind people to buy gifts for mothers who take care of the family all year long.
